About Virtus One
What endures is purpose, the genuine difference we make to those we serve, and the virtues that determine whether what we build is worth building.
"After a successful career building and leading businesses, I came to a clear conclusion."
Commercial accomplishment is not, in itself, what it is about. What it is about — what actually endures — is purpose. The genuine difference we make to the people we work with and serve. And the virtues that have always, and will always, determine whether what we build is worth building.
Virtus One is my attempt to work on that. To bring everything I have learned about leadership, growth and values into a practice that helps others lead with greater clarity, integrity and lasting impact.
The Meaning Behind the Name
A conviction, not a brand.
The word the Romans used for excellence of character. Not success. Not status. Not the accumulation of material accomplishment.
The inner qualities — courage, wisdom, temperance, justice — that allow a person to live and lead well. Qualities that have always mattered and, whatever changes around us, always will.
The virtues are not a constraint on performance. They are the most reliable foundation for it — and the only foundation that holds over time.
One carries three meanings: One You, the individual leader. One Mind, the quality of judgement. One Impact, the enduring value created for all who are served. Three foundations. One coherent idea.
The Founding Belief
As within, so without.
The insight that shaped Virtus One did not arrive as a theory. It arrived through observation — accumulated over decades of operating, leading and investing, across businesses at every stage of growth.
The strategies that failed rarely failed because the analysis was wrong. They came apart because the person leading was operating without the inner clarity that sustained, values-led decision-making requires. The purpose was absent or unclear. The values were stated but not held under pressure.
And the inverse was equally true. When leaders are genuinely clear within, the quality of everything around them is different.
As within, so without. What we create is always, eventually, a reflection of who we are — not just what we know or what we have achieved.
The Framework
Not a process to be followed — a way of understanding where lasting performance actually comes from, and how the inner world of a leader connects to the enduring value their organisation creates.
01
Leadership Integrity
Leadership begins with the individual. Self-awareness, values alignment and personal credibility are the foundations from which sound judgement and trusted leadership grow. When a leader is aligned within, the clarity compounds outward — into strategy, culture and the quality of what is built.
02
Disciplined Judgement
The capability most consequential to long-term outcomes, and most consistently underinvested in. Courage to act. Wisdom to see consequence. Temperance to remain measured. Justice to decide fairly. Classical virtues — and entirely practical leadership capacities.
03
Sustainable Value
Lasting value is created when organisations serve all of their stakeholders well — customers, people, investors, community and planet — without sacrificing one for another. Not idealism. A principle of enduring performance.
Background
Over thirty years operating at senior level across some of the UK's most complex and consequential business environments.
I say this not to impress, but because it matters for what I do now. The work I do today draws on all of it — and is, I believe, more valuable because of it.
I share this background not as a credential, but as context.
The Beginning
Learning, at the most direct level, what genuine service culture looks and feels like.
Fifteen Years
Roles of increasing scale and responsibility — ultimately running a £4 billion turnover business with accountability for a £56 million profit division and leadership of 9,000 colleagues. Leading at scale, within a high-performance service culture and complex plc organisation.
CEO
Leading a portfolio of early-stage technology companies across digital media, AI, streaming and gaming. An education in governance, investor relations, and the gap between a compelling vision and the discipline to realise it.
Since 2020
Across leisure, travel and clean energy — sectors where the intersection of commercial performance and genuine sustainability impact is both urgent and complex.
A Personal Commitment
Purpose and planet are not separate from performance. They are the conditions for it.
I am a passionate advocate for renewable energy, sustainable business practice and genuine environmental stewardship. My Carbon Literacy Certification reflects a personal commitment that runs deeper than professional interest.
In my advisory work, this means I take seriously the question of impact — not just for investors and customers, but for the broader systems that businesses operate within. I believe that organisations built on sustainable principles, and led by people who understand why that matters, will outperform over time. Not as a hope — as a pattern I have observed and continue to see.
"The most enduring businesses create value for customers, people, investors and planet — not at the expense of one for another, but as an integrated commitment to what actually lasts."
How I Work
I work with a small number of clients at any one time. A deliberate choice, not a limitation.
The quality of attention this work requires — and the trust that makes it genuinely useful — cannot be scaled without being diluted.
I am direct. When something is not working, I will say so. When the real issue is different from the stated one, I will point to it. That directness is not harshness — it is respect.
I have no interest in being impressive. I have every interest in being useful — the kind of adviser you can think out loud with, be genuinely challenged by, and trust to be honest when it matters most.
Most relationships begin with a single conversation or a focused engagement. They deepen naturally, as trust is established and the work proves its value. I do not push for longer commitments. The work earns them.
The most useful thing an adviser can offer is not a framework or a process. It is a relationship in which you can be completely honest — and receive complete honesty in return.
A free 20-minute discovery call is the natural starting point. No pitch, no obligation. A genuine conversation about what you are navigating — and whether Virtus One is the right partner for it.
